Updates from the field - Loreto and Madre de Dios
We have exciting updates from the past couple of months here at Camino Verde, moving closer to accomplishing our community action plan and creating impact on the Amazonian landscape in Perú.
Farmer Field School became a reality in August!! We successfully facilitated a horizontal exchange of knowledge between Bora and Huitoto rosewood farmers from Ampiyacu and Maijuna stingless beekeepers from Napo. The farmer field schools were realized in Ampiyacu, with a group of Maijuna leaving home and heading to Bora/Huitoto country. With our logistical and material support, the farmers successfully led the workshops. Not only was there an exchange of knowledge, but there was a beautiful exchange of culture, dances and reconnection of families living in different river basins.

Our partners at CITE Productivo and Foreslab are making great strides in the process of in vitro propagation of rosewood, having successfully established the plants in vitro cultures both labs are now experimenting with multiplication. Testing different variables, hormones and growth mediums they are working to find the best variables to support the multiplication of rosewood. Multiplication will exponentially increase the number of seedlings available for reforestation. We are currently seeking complementary funding to build a specialized greenhouse at CV La Joya that will allow us to receive seedlings from the in vitro labs in more hygienic conditions to successfully grow them until they are ready for planting in the field.
