Seeding the future by planting 20,000 fruit trees by 2025

Tree planting is not just a local solution; it's a global one. It's one of the most effective ways to mitigate the effects of climate change. A single mature tree can remove over 25 kg of harmful greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. By supporting tree planting, you are helping African families and contributing to a 'win-win' for the planet.

Trees (wood and fruit) are also vital resources for vulnerable rural communities in Malawi, particularly at Nsokozeni village in the Dowa district. They provide a valuable source of food and nutrients, income, and shelter, support the prevention of soil erosion, and restore degraded land. Generally, Trees tackle poverty and improve the livelihood of local communities.

As a result, the Dowa GLFx Chapter conducted a mass fruit three distribution and planting campaign for its 100 farm household members under the GLFx-funded project: Building Sustainable Food Systems and Income Alternatives for Local Communities. Over 2500 trees from the community fruit tree nurseries have been planted to establish two community orchards. In addition, over 1000 fruit trees have been distributed to 100 farm households involved in the project to support and enhance the availability of fruit trees in the backyard gardens and staple fields to improve access to fruits at the household level.
